The 26th Annual Monte Carlo Fundraiser — “Evening at the Oasis” — will benefit North Bay schools, charities, & Ignacio Rotary Charitable Projects. The 2013 date is March 9th.
All of the net proceeds are directly contributed to local schools, charities, and community organizations. During the 26-year history of the event the Club has raised and contributed more than $680,000 to local charities — including the following partial list:
This event was first held in 1988 to help raise money for the Club’s Polio Plus commitment to Rotary International — a campaign to eradicate polio worldwide. As the event became even more successful, involving every member of the Club and broad participation from the community, it was decided to continue the event with all proceeds benefiting local, charitable organizations and schools.
During the first few years, average attendance at Monte Carlo was 250 to 300 people. Our 2010 event drew approximately 600 attendees, and each year is the largest single event held at Fireman’s Fund Headquarters in Novato. Over 150 businesses and individual sponsors were also involved in 2010 by donating auction items and sponsoring gaming tables. In addition, the event was underwritten by numerous corporate sponsors, including Brayton Purcell, LLP, and All-American Printing, Inc.
Monte Carlo makes money for our community, provides a great social evening, and furnishes an opportunity for businesses and individuals to give back to their community. From the Club’s perspective, it also allows each and every member to exhibit fellowship to its fullest — one of the “Objects of Rotary”. For many of the guests attending the event, Monte Carlo is also their first awareness of Rotary and what it does.
Monte Carlo has become the premier annual social event in Novato and one of the largest annual events in the entire North Bay. The event has raised the visibility and image of Rotary in the community, as well as an awareness and recognition for the outstanding work performed by the Rotary Club of Ignacio. Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 32,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.
Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds.
The main objective of Rotary is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development. The Rotary motto is Service Above Self.
The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is a not-for-profit corporation that promotes world understanding through international humanitarian service programs and educational and cultural exchanges. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and others who share its vision of a better world. Since 1947, the Foundation has awarded more than US$1.1 billion in humanitarian and educational grants, which are initiated and administered by local Rotary clubs and districts.
